The VT Child Care Industry and Careers Council, in partnership with the VT Department of Labor, offers a new option for you to explore!

What is On the Job Training?

An opportunity:
For newer child care/afterschool and youth workers to develop their skills, focusing on specific daily activities.
For staff to receive support and positive feedback working with a more seasoned teacher in your program.
To document 1000 hours of on the job training

You invest a lot of time in providing a caring, nurturing, supportive and educational environment for the children and families you work with everyday. Yet the many layers of teaching, care giving and modeling can be overwhelming in the first few years of teaching. The On the Job Training model has been developed to give new employees a chance to be supported, as an entry level child care worker, through coaching and mentoring right at your workplace; helping staff work on skills so that they can become the best teacher they can be.

Who can apply? Regulated child care and school based programs are eligible, that have staff with three years or less experience as a care provider.

Requirements? It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4

Work time must be supervised
Time On the Job is coded
Trainees must see a pay increase at the end of the training
Program must have no serious violations in the past 12 months
