Apprenticeship Kick Off!

Child Care Joins the Family of Registered Apprenticeship, October 16, 2000

In celebration of Registered Apprenticeship Awareness Month, federal and state representatives of Registered Apprenticeship as well as child care programs were invited to celebrate the 18 month development of the VT Child Care Apprenticeship Program. VT’s model brings a unique component to the traditional model of advancing wage scales as levels of training are completed, including wage enhancements as a line item in the budget of the Implementation Grant received by the US Department of Labor.

This celebration was hosted by Trinity College Child Care Center in Burlington. Trinity CCC was one of the first program sponsors to formally enroll an apprentice in the Program, joining 21 other child care centers in VT to participate in the pilot program.

Senator James Jeffords, a strong supporter of early education, was on hand to participate in the celebration. Senator Jeffords was an early supporter of the Child Care Apprenticeship Program, along with VT’s Department of Employment & Training, and the US Department of Labor.
