Vermont Child Care Apprentices and Mentors Wanted! 

NOW ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS!   

  • 6 tuition free college courses combined with local training opportunities
  • On the job training with a qualified mentor
  • Compensation for successful completion of each segment (for apprentices and mentors)
  • Tuition-free coursework focused on leadership and mentoring is offered for mentors (graduate or under graduate credit available)
  • Apprentices earn a professional certification which is recognized nationwide
  • Certificate of Completion qualifies apprentices for the Quality Bonus from the Child Development Division
  • Apprenticeship courses incorporate the training needs to complete the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential

WHO QUALIFIES?

Apprentices come from a variety of backgrounds. Typically they are individuals new to the field and/or individuals who have not had a formal education in early childhood. All must have a willingness to commit to a 2-year training program.

Mentors have extensive experience working with young children. Typically they have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Early Ed or related field. They are willing to provide ongoing support, on-the-job mentoring and perform weekly assessments with an apprentice.

To meet US Department of Labor and VT Department of Employment and Training requirements, Apprentices and Mentors must work in the same child care program for formal supervision on the job and guidance through this professional journey. Benefits to the child care employer include high quality training for both apprentices and mentors.
