Y's Time Children's Center, St. Albans

Congratulations to Apprentice Sara Vicknair! She completed all requirements for the trade of Child Care Development Specialist and was awarded her Certificate of Completion in June 2003!

Y’s Time in St Albans returns to the Registered Apprenticeship Program, sponsoring apprentice Jill Jankowski in June of 2004.

The YMCA Y’s Time Children’s Center in St Albans is a cooperative effort between the Greater Burlington YMCA and the Federal Government. As a corporate-sponsored child care center, Y’s Time gives priority for up to 50% of the slots to children of federal government employees. The remaining slots are open to the public.

Goals of the center include:

  • Provide a safe, warm and comfortable environment in which each child can build strong, positive relationships with adults and other children
  • Respect each child as an individual with unique abilities, feelings, neds and wants
  • Develop positive self-concepts by creating an atmosphere geared to successful experiences

Apprentice Jill Jankowsji graduated from high school in 1982 and has attended courses through Community College of Vermont, prior to enrolling in the Registered Child Care Apprenticeship Program. Jill began working in child care in 1997. She writes, “ I am currently taking classes at CCV, St. Albans, so when my supervisor told me about these classes, I was very interested. I hope to gain quality training and open doors for my career as a pre-school teacher. I have been blessed with this job and education/training and plan to use every available source offered to me.”

Roseann Moore has a Master’s Degree in Education from Rivier College, has 12 years experience in Early Childhood education setting and joined Y’s Time as Director almost 4 years ago. When one mentor left the program for another job, Roseann stepped up to the plate to support her progression through the on-the-job training requirement. It is wonderful to see another apprentice/mentor team in St. Albans!
