Congratulations! Claire Brunell has successfully completed all training requirements and earned her Certificate of Completion from the VT Department of Labor for the trade of Child Care Development Specialist in October 2005! Fletcher Allen Y’s Time Children’s Center is located on Colchester Avenue in Burlington. It is a unique child care center set up specifically to help meet the needs of the Fletcher Allen Health Care employees. The center is operated by the Greater Burlington YMCA which brings more than 20 years of child care experience to the center. FAHC Y’s Time curriculum is a blend of teacher-directed and individual learning experiences, incorporated within a multisensory, hands-on approach. Children learn by using their five senses to explore the world around them while developing an increased ability to think, reason, question and experiment. Apprentice Claire Brunell formally enrolled in Registered Apprenticeship in September 2002. “The Registered Apprentice Program seems like a wonderful program for me to get into. I think the 2 year program will give me the education I am looking for and in the way that will suit me best. I hope to learn and establish a more organized and productive educational knowledge so I can become a better teacher. I believe that the children and families I work with will learn with me and be able to grow with me.” Mentor Carolyn Munger holds a BA in Anthropology with a minor in Education as well as a Montessori Directress Diploma and has worked as a preschool teacher at the YMCA for 3 years. Carolyn writes, “I feel it will be an excellent learning experience for my associate teacher as well as me. Skills that a professional child care teacher must have to be successful in the classroom will be covered in coursework and implemented in the classroom. I look forward to helping her get the time and experience that is needed to fulfill the apprenticeship requirements.” Director Anne Powell writes: “It is an excellent vehicle to support the important professional development of beginning child care professionals while they are gaining hands-on experience as well. It benefits the apprentices, the centers and the profession as a whole.” |
