Meet The Participants

Wallingford Daycare & Preschool, located on Main St in Wallingford, 8 miles south of Rutland, has began involvement in the Registered Apprenticeship Program since the pilot phase began in December 1999. Director Wendy Savery and her husband Mike Cange have supporeted apprentices through to completion and contributed photos for our brochures. “I would like our program to participate in the Registered Child Care Program to offer increased opportunities for professional development among staff members,” writes Wendy Savery. They continue to sponsor the Apprenticeship Program by having an apprentice – mentor team currently enrolled.

Apprentice Andrea Forrest has worked in the home day care setting and has taken the Fundamentals course for newly licensed staff. She made the commitment to the program in April of 2009 and writes, “I am hoping to be able to step back and look at my strengths and weaknesses so that I can build on those and improve the very important relationships that I have with the children in my care.”

Mentor Wendy Savery is the director/owner of Wallingford and will be supporting Andrea through her on the job training. Earning a Masters of Education from College of Saint Joseph, Wendy has been involved in the early childhood field since 1991. She writes, “I am excited to share interpersonal skills as well as my experiences working with young children over the past eighteen years…Children and families benefit from programming which reflects current best practice, and from increased communication and enhanced relationships among the providers caring for their children.”
