CONGRATULATIONS! Suzanne Girouard successfully completed all training requirements and earned her Certificate of Completion from the VT Department of Labor for the trade of Child Care Development Specialist! St. Michael’s College Child Care Center is located on the South Campus, in the Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester. The center serves children ages 6 weeks to 5 years and seeks to provide an environment in which each child can reach her or his full potential.
The child care center recognizes the uniqueness of each child and that parents know their child best. The staff is committed to working with parents to provide the most appropriate care for each child. Each group of children has its own schedule and curriculum, designed to encourage children to grow and develop in an orderly, supportive environment. This assures that children’s social, cognitive and physical needs are met. Apprentice Lisa Kuehn signed up for the Apprenticeship Program in November of 2007. She is being co-mentored by Director Sue Treadwell and lead teacher Naomi Bartlett. Lisa earned a BS in Computer Science and discovered along the way that she enjoyed working with children. She began working at St. Michael’s in March of 2007. Lisa writes, “The Registered Apprenticeship Program appeals to me because it is a focused program where I can get both theoretical knowledge and hands on experience to learn more about the field of child care.” Mentor Naomi Bartlett has her Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and continues to attend professional development courses and workshops to keep herself educated on what is new and emerging in the child care industry. Naomi is co-mentoring Lisa and writes about her experience, “I have worked at the Early Learning Center for 18 years. During this time I had different mentors which have helped me grow professionally. I hope that I have (helped), and will continue to (coach and guide) other teachers as they begin their Early Childhood Educator careers.” Mentor/Director Susan Treadwell has a degree in Psychology from the University of Vermont. She continues her education by taking Master’s classes at St. Michael’s in Education. Having worked in the child care field for over 26 years, Sue brings with her a wealth of knowledge that she generously shares. She is co-mentoring Apprentice Lisa Kuehn and writes, “I hope to enrich my experience and learn techniques and skills in observing and providing constructive feedback for teachers…” |
