Welcome! Going Places Learning Center is located at 12 Field Road in Fairfax and serves children from ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. Going Places Learning Center’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 6:45 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Director Christel Michaud is committed to providing support for the mentor and apprentice at Going Places Learning Center. Christel writes, “On many levels, I am committed to creating the time for supervision. As a Social Worker, I have learned the importance and value of quality and consistent supervision. As a professional, I have personally experienced the benefits of supervision. As an employer, I understand the time constraints that often interfere with the ability to provide quality supervision and have found it necessary to simply place it as a top priority.” Apprentice Lynn Luman signed on as an apprentice in the Spring of 2009 with a previous employer and continued as an apprentice with Going Places in 2010. Lynn was previously employed at schools and mental health agencies as a Family Worker, Behavior Interventionist, Paraeducator and Home School Coordinator. She values the educational opportunities offered through the Apprenticeship Program. She writes, “I feel you can always learn. I am of course very interested in obtaining my degree, and feel that I have a lot of knowledge when it comes to children, but want the certification that proves so. I am eager to learn different skills from instructors, other students, colleagues and supervisors to help assist the children I work with.” Mentor Christel Michaud graduated from the University of Vermont in 1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She has been a Certified Instructor with Vermont Northern Lights Career Development Center since 2007. Christel believes that the mentor and apprentice grow professionally from the Apprenticeship Program, but that the children and families they work with are the biggest beneficiaries of the program. She writes, “Ultimately, although we benefit in a multitude of ways during this process, this is about the children and families and providing them with the best experience and opportunities that adds something to their lives for the better.” |
