CONGRATULATIONS! Jessie Cicia has successfully completed all training requirements and earned her Certificate of Completion from the VT Department of Labor for the trade of Child Care Development Specialist! Champlain Islands Parent Child Center (CIPCC) South joins the Apprentice Program as a sponsor in May 2008! Located at 114 South St. in South Hero, Vermont, Champlain Islands Parent Child Center (CIPCC) South offers child care Monday through Friday from 7 5:30 and are licensed for up to 35 children 6 weeks of age to 7 years old. Becoming accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in January of 2008, the center maintained their commitment to high standards of quality child care by becoming sponsors of the Apprenticeship Program in May 2008. Apprentice Bonnie Cicia follows in the footsteps of her daughter and enrolls as a Registered Apprentice in May 2010. Bonnie earned her GED in 1980 and has been employed at the Parent Child Center since August 1999. She earned her Infant Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in 2002 and when looking for her next step in professional development, Registered Apprenticeship seemed a good fit. Bonnie writes, “I am watching my daughter go through the Program and see all the benefits she is getting in her education. I am hoping to gain more knowledge on my education for the young children I work with and how to work better with their families and my co-workers.” Mentor Jenn Lestage will be guiding Bonnie in her professional journey through apprenticeship. Jenn graduated from high school in 1999 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from the University of VT in 2005. Jenn has been working in the field since her Internship in 2005. Jenn writes, “One of my future goals is to become a director and I feel becoming a mentor will help me reach that goal. I also want to learn more about my role as a lead teacher and how I can help others. I am very excited to share with my teacher my love of nature. I also have a love of music. You can see me dancing throughout the day and making music with the children. I would like to incorporate that into what I pass along.” Director Elizabeth Lamphere writes, “I have always felt strongly about the gains of receiving hands on training while taking relevant courses to enhance learning…our young children benefit from the program by enjoying a safe, caring, and comfortable learning environment provided by our professional staff… and since this is a two year program, I anticipate less teacher turn over.” |
