The Cambridge Elementary School
Joins the Family of Registered Apprenticeship
In January 2007!

The Cambridge Elementary Pre-School is located in Jeffersonville. The Pre-School offers an early literacy, play based program that fosters scientific and mathematical thinking while developing children’s self-esteem through art, writing and movement and providing socialization with peers.

Our educational program is play based, grounded in the knowledge that pre-school children learn best in enriched environments where they are given opportunities and are encouraged to explore, question and experiment. The pre-school room has various stations set up for the many developmental learning domains. These stations invite peer interaction, as well as an opportunity for children to explore and discover what each station has to offer.

Apprentice Laura Miller has been working, at the Cambridge Elementary School since 2000, as a substitute teacher, para educator and/or one-to-one aid for a child with disabilities. Laura has attended many hours of training, taking courses at Cabrillo College as well as the local Community College of VT and through local workshops. She is currently working towards completing her Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.

Laura writes, “I would love to have formal training in something I have been doing for several years. I am trying to obtain my AA degree from CCV and then earn a Bachelor’s degree from Johnson State College. This program would help me [] reach my goal. There is a potential of having 2 preschool classes down the road and I hope to fill the second teacher position once I have completed my advance education.”

Mentor Dianne Carlino-Desroches will be guiding Laura through her 4,000 hours of on-the-job training. Dianne has earned her Master Degree in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of VT and holds a Teacher License through the VT Department of Education. Dianne has worked with young children since 1996.
