4 Corners Children’s Center (4CCC) is located on Brownsville Rd. in Hartland Four Corners. The Center is open from 7:30-5:30 Monday through Friday and serves up to 50 children, ages 6 weeks to 6 years. 4CCC joined the family of Registered Apprenticeship in June 2005.

4 Corners Children’s Center strives to provide a family oriented environment, emphasizing each child’s commitment within our group and the community in which we live. The uniqueness of each child is recognized and nurtured with opportunities to explore and discover his/her world. We work and play with the whole child, respectful of his/her individual background.”

Apprentice Jennifer Hamblin graduated from high school in 2001 and has been employed at 4 Corner’s since 2003. Jen completed 5 of the 6 college courses needed for the Registered Apprenticeship Program prior to her registration with the VT Department of Labor in July 2007. Jen writes, “[The Apprenticeship Program] is a way for me to further my education while still being able to work full time. I will be more knowledgeable about my job and also the bond between my mentor and [me] will be stronger.”

Mentor Nancy Warner returns to the Program to support Jen in her professional development on-the-job at 4CCC. Nancy attended Data Institute in New Haven, CT, majoring in Computer Office Management before coming to work at 4CCC. She has earned her Infant Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in March 2004 and continues to take classes through Community College of Vermont, working towards her Associate’s degree. Nancy has been employed at 4 Corners Children’s Center since December 2001. Nancy writes, “Child care providers are a wonderful asset to their community but cannot always afford to continue their education. For this I feel this program is going to be beneficial to all.”

Apprentice Corinna Brown joined the Apprenticeship Program in the Fall of 2010. She started college coursework in 2008 and values the educational opportunities offered through the Apprenticeship Program. She writes, “The Apprenticeship Program will greatly broaden my learning environment. The classes I will be attending will increase my knowledge. I then will be able to use this knowledge at my job with my mentor helping me to fine tune and answer questions that many come up along the way. The children will benefit from my new knowledge the most. I will be able to share my learning with them on a daily basis... creating more positive patterns and new exciting learning techniques.”

Co-Mentors Laura Montano and Val Raney will be supporting Corinna through her Apprenticeship experience. Laura has been employed at 4 Corners since 1997. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts/English in 1976. Laura has added interesting subjects to the curriculum, teaching her students weaving, paper making and book making. She looks forward to working within the Apprenticeship Program. She writes, “The Registered Apprenticeship Program appeals to me because it provides a logical and clearly stated approach to proficiency. It allows the apprentice to put what she learns through coursework into practice. It will also be gratifying to see my apprentice develop as a teacher and see her succeed.”

Co-Mentor/Owner Val Raney has directed and owned 4 Corners Children’s Center since 1999. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Spanish in 1982 from Thiel College in Pennsylvania and an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education in 2007 from Community College of Vermont. She writes, “My hope, as a mentor is to see my apprentice grow and blossom into a wonderful teacher of children. I also hope she will continue to want to learn more professionally and reach for higher goals both for the benefit of herself, the children and their families and our program. With this program and our partnership, we will all benefit.”
