Mentors

Mentors

Mentors are identified by the child care program as those experienced and skilled enough to provide excellent support and supervision to someone newer to the field. Mentors also agree that supervision and assessment within the Registered Apprenticeship program will be part of their work for two years.

Mentors are offered a full day of training to gain knowledge and practice observation skills with their peer group. Over the course of the apprenticeship program, mentors are expected to observe, evaluate, process and help apprentices devise an action plan for improvement. Just as the apprentices work hard, so do the mentors.

The Vermont Apprenticeship Program cares about the development of all child care providers at all levels and works to ensure the framework for this educational support meets the needs of the "apprentice team" of apprentice and mentor. Both are truly partners learning and working together.
