Mentor's Course Description

The following course is offered for current and anticipated mentors in
the VT Child Care Apprenticeship Program.

COURSE PURPOSE

To Increase leadership capacity.

METHOD

Leadership Processes:
Proven interpersonal and conceptual skill development tools and leadership traits. Topics include leadership models, continuous improvement assessment, communication (briefings & professional writing). Group dynamics, decision making, activity management, planning, meeting management, productive teams, ethical dilemmas, change factors, and work place organizational structures, management and values.
  Continuous Improvement Assessment encourages self-knowledge and development.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Incorporates both the leadership and assessment processes.

On-going Learning:
Hands-on practice of leadership and assessment processes.

3 credits (graduate or under-graduate available)

DOCUMENTATION
OF LEARNING

In addition to course requirements, students shall present a paper by the end of the year addressing one of two topics.

Leadership Processes Paper:

  • Adapt and test leadership processes in the workplace and report findings.
  • Identify a specific leadership process or concept research it adapt and test in workplace and report findings.
